Mitch Bowers, owner of Ashes by Air and Imagewerx.us Aerial & Aviation Photography, has been flying professionally for twenty years. Mitch holds Cessna Citation and Lear Jet type ratings, ATP (Airline Transport Pilot) multi engine commercial & instrument pilot ratings, also flies professionally for a FAA part 135 operator. and flys hundreds of aerial photography assignments each year.
“My motivation to create Ashes by Air came after my mother-in-law passed away in 2011. It was her wish that her ashes be set on the beach and carried out to sea by the waves. I saw the peace it brought my wife to see her moms wish fulfilled. Losing a loved one can bring a sense of helplessness. I like to know that I am helping a grieving family to grant a last wish of a loved one.”
Additionally, Mitch has been a professional photographer for over 24 years and has won numerous awards from organizations like PAPA International (Professional Aerial Photographers Association International). Mitch is an active member of the Idaho Aviation Association, CABA (Colorado Aviation Business Association), AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association) and the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association). Safety is always the first concern and all FAA regulations are adhered to during every flight.
All photos on Ashes by Air website are photographed by Mitch from his Cessna 182
and using his Canon Digital SLR cameras.
Is it legal? Yes, please read the FAA regulation below. FAA Regulation – 91.15 Dropping Objects: No pilot in command of a civil aircraft may allow any object to be dropped from that aircraft in flight that creates a hazard to persons or property. However, this section does not prohibit the dropping of any object if reasonable precautions are taken to avoid injury or damage to persons or property.
